Rising House Prices in the South East

House prices in England have reached a record high according to figures released by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).

The UK’s house price index is currently very close to its peak in 2008, with increased demand from new buyers, encouraged by the government’s ‘Help to Buy’ scheme, coupled with a shortage of new properties in high-demand areas. However dramatic rises in London and the South East are skewing the statistics for the whole country, with house prices actually falling in Scotland, Wales and Northern England.
