Spectrum Local Finals

Spectrum,’ a team of 21 year 12 students from Sir Henry Floyd Grammar School in Aylesbury, have sailed through the local heat of the Young Enterprise final. This is great news for Sir Henry Floyd as Spectrum’s victory signifies the third consecutive year that entrants from the school have qualified for the County Finals!

At the start of this academic year, as part of the Young Enterprise flagship Company Programme, Spectrum set up their own firm, producing tie-dye t-shirts. Under the guidance of business volunteers, including our current Trainee Solicitor Atifha, they have been involved in a range of business activity, from raising the initial share capital to selling directly to customers at trade fairs while generating a profit and paying their taxes!

Parrott and Coales LLP understand how important it is to invest in future talent and we promote the idea of learning key life skills such as teamwork, practical thinking and how to be financially literate, by doing. The Young Enterprise experience helps to create commercially aware individuals who are able to provide practical solutions and this is useful both in a legal context and otherwise.

‘Spectrum’ impressed the Young Enterprise Judges at the Aylesbury Final on the 16th April 2015 with their passion and attention to detail. Their policies on selling to the public and complaints procedure were well received as they demonstrated that the team had considered the practicalities of running a business. They consequently won the award for the Best Company Report, beating 11 other schools in the area. Additionally, their enthusiasm in respect of expanding their product range to tie-dye bandanas and canvas bags in line with the upcoming festival season saw them named overall runners-up!

We congratulate them on their local success and wish them well for the County Finals on the 8th May 2015, where they will compete with 7 other schools and colleges throughout Buckinghamshire. Watch this space!
