As from 1 February 2012 the maximum for a week’s pay (used to calculate statutory redundancy pay) increased to £430.00 and the maximum compensatory award payable in a successful claim of unfair dismissal increased to £72,300. 

Right to Claim Ordinary Unfair Dismissal

From 1 April 2012 the qualifying period for presenting a claim of ordinary unfair dismissal increases from one to two years.  This will apply to all employees employed on or after 6 April 2012, who will then require two years’ continuous employment before they can bring a claim for ordinary unfair dismissal (and request a statement of reasons for dismissal).  Employees whose period of continuous employment begins on or before 5 April 2012 will still be subject to the shorter qualifying period of one year.The Government also intends to introduce, from 2013, a new fee system for employees presenting Tribunal Claims, with a view to reducing the number of vexatious claims. 

Statutory Maternity etc Pay and Statutory Sick Pay

From 9 April 2012 Statutory Maternity, Paternity, Additional Paternity, Adoption Pay and Maternity Allowance increases from £128.73 to £135.45, and Statutory Sick Pay increases from £81.60 to £85.85.
