Local Businesses Have Their Say

On Friday the 14th of October, local business leaders, along with Steve Baker MP, got together to discuss how to grow their businesses as the economy continues to recover.

The debate, held at Uplands Conference Centre, saw three local businesses, Parrott & Coales, Seymour Taylor and HSBC, come together in a debate Chaired by Owen Hughes from another local business, Eyes Wide Open.

The event saw the chance to quiz experts from the legal, accountancy and banking sectors on how businesses can compete at the moment and where the opportunities will come from, whilst at the same time, understanding where the pressures lie from within a political perspective.

The debate gave local business people an opportunity to challenge the experts which consisted of, Sharon Stone, Commercial Solicitor of Aylesbury based solicitors, Parrott and Coales, Simon Turner, Managing Director of Seymour Taylor Chartered Accountants in High Wycombe and Graham Hammond International Commercial Manager  of HSBC, as well as, Steve Baker, MP for High Wycombe. The panel were quizzed on many different areas, from legislation to finance and business planning to employment.

Rather than being the normal presentation, the event gave business leaders the opportunity to discuss and have an input, leading Steve Baker to comment that he would like to be part of the audience next time as this was the real feedback he was looking for. Attendees came away enthused at having a chance to voice their thoughts and opinions and it was agreed that a regular format like this would be welcome.

On this basis, the group of companies are now planning similar debates three times a year to discuss the key issues facing local businesses.
